Rural Contracting


These qualifications have been developed in partnership with industry, and are endorsed by Rural Contractors New Zealand. Each qualification is designed to be stand-alone, but they can also be completed as part of a structured career pathway.  

Rural contracting companies where the owner, manager or an employee in a supervisory capacity holds the Level 3 National Certificate in Agricultural Contracting are eligible for accreditation as a Qualified Contractor with Rural Contractors New Zealand.

NEW! IW2 - Your first step in the rural contracting industry
An introductory qualification for people who are starting out in their career or who have transferred from another industry. Ideal for those working in civil works, rural contracting, surfacing or underground utilities.

This qualification covers key skills including:

  • Health and safety
  • Communication
  • Record keeping and accident reporting
  • Care and maintenance of hand tools
  • Basic machinery maintenance
  • Hand spreading
IW2 will take around nine months to complete and is mainly achieved on-job.

National Certificate in Agricultural Contracting

This qualification has expired and is no longer open for enrolments.

It will be replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Rural Contracting Level 3, which will be available in mid-2017.
