INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS (IW2)

NEW ZEALAND CERTIFICATE IN INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS – LEVEL 2 (IW2)

This qualification is for you if you are starting out in your career and have recently started working within the industry. You may have come from school, another industry or already be employed in the industry without a qualification.

CORE SKILLS COVERED:

  • Key information about the infrastructure works industry
  • Health, safety and working within the busy infrastructure environment
  • Good communication skills for onsite and dealing with public
  • How to keep your work records and incident/accident reporting
  • How to care and maintain your hand tools
  • How to maintain basic machinery
  • Hand spreading- how to best use hand tools and put down materials and compact them

INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS (IW3)

NEW ZEALAND CERTIFICATE IN INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS – LEVEL 3 (IW3)

CORE SKILLS COVERED:

  • Health, safety and working within the busy infrastructure environment
  • Good communication skills for onsite and dealing with public
  • Knowledge of slinging, lifting, moving, and placing loads using mobile plant
  • Knowledge of the protection and support systems used for excavation on infrastructure works sites
  • How to monitor and inspect the quality of your own work
  • Materials compaction and testing- to support foundations, road surfacing etc.
  • How to safely operate and maintain at least three types of small plant and equipment
  • How to secure and transport materials, small plant and equipment for infrastructure works activities

 

PLANT AND EQUIPMENT

NEW ZEALAND CERTIFICATE IN INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS PLANT & EQUIPMENT

  • 40-70 Credits
  • 6-16 Months

Strands: Specialist plant

This qualification will take approximately 6-8 months to complete or 12-16 months including the specialist plant strand.

CORE SKILLS COVERED:

  • Health and Safety
  • Communication
  • Plant inspection, maintenance and operation

Specialist Plant strand includes at least one specialist plant, such as:

  • Operating a hydraulic excavator for general works, facing and benching, and rock placement
  • Operating a motor grader for road maintenance or road construction
  • Operating a reclaimer stabiliser and stabilising spreader
