Version 2 of the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Bitumen Surfacing Construction) was published in February 2023 following a scheduled review. Minor changes were made to the qualification including an amendment to the strategic purpose statement to clarify the scope of practice and updating Graduate Profile Outcomes.

The education pathway was amended in line with current industry requirements.

No changes were made to the qualification’s Purpose, Level or Credit requirements.

Connexis is required to update the Programme to the latest version (version 2) to reflect the changes made to the qualification.

Connexis is requesting Endorsement from Industry that the existing Connexis Programme is suitable for meeting the Outcomes of Version 2 of the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Bitumen Surfacing Construction).

Following external and internal consultation, Connexis is seeking Endorsement for proposed changes to the Connexis Programmes leading to Version 2 of the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Pipeline Construction and Maintenance) with strands in Drinking Water, Stormwater and Wastewater, and Trenchless Technologies (Level 4) (NZQA Ref: 3858-2) (Connexis Programme Refs: 124535 [Drinking-Water], 124538 [Stormwater and Wastewater] and 124537 [Trenchless Technology]).

Summary of proposed Programmes:

· Unit Standards from previous Programmes added

· From internal and external feedback

· Compatibility with existing Training Plans

Each Outcome contains:

· Small number of Mandatory Unit Standards

· More Elective Unit Standards

· Some Unit Standards changed from Mandatory to Elective (These can be deemed as ‘mandatory’ in the Training Plans developed by Connexis, Employers and Trainees)

· Allows for flexibility whist retaining a common core

· Outcome and the Programme credit range guidance

· Maintain academic integrity

· Realistic expectations for Trainees and Employers

· Outcomes are met at appropriate Levels

· No over-assessment

· Financial implications of too many Credits selected

· Outcomes 2 & 3 combined

· Feedback indicated that many Unit Standards were relevant for both Outcomes
