Assessor e-News – 2022 Assessor Forums, expired unit standards and more

benstevens eNews, News

Kia ora,

I have recently taken on the role of Quality Assurance (QA) Manager with Connexis and am proud to be joining the team. My background is in evaluative quality assurance, on-job assessment, and moderation. I have spent the past 15 years with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) carrying out audits, external evaluation and review (EER), and more recently, leading the Consistency Review team. Prior to that, I worked in a number of roles in Industry Training Organisations (ITOs).

The QA team at Connexis is a small one committed to supporting our assessors and moderators, and providing a quality service to you and our customers. Please do not hesitate to contact us as we enjoy hearing from people involved in providing quality training and assessment for our industries.

In this Assessor eNews you will find updates on Assessor Forums, expired unit standards, maintaining assessor registrations and more.

I look forward to working with you.

Ngā mihi nui,

Kate Wallace
Manager, Quality Assurance
Connexis – a Business Division of Te Pūkenga Work Based Learning Limited

2022 Assessor Forums

Due to the ever-changing COVID-19 situation and Connexis’ policies around current traffic light settings, we are waiting to confirm how the 2022 Assessor Forums will be run.

Once a decision has been made, we will be in touch with dates and how to book.

Expired Unit Standards

As of December 2021, some unit standards have expired. We are unable to report results for unit standards once they have expired.

Please make sure you are reporting assessment results for current unit standards only.

Contact us at quality@connexis.org.nz if you have any questions.

Maintaining your Assessor Registration

Just a quick reminder that the ongoing requirements to maintain your assessor registration are:

  • Attending a Connexis Assessor Professional Development workshop at least once every two years (or annually for peer review and moderation).
  • Be actively assessing and reporting credits annually.
  • Demonstrate consistent and fair assessment practices through moderator supported decisions in the Connexis post-assessment moderation process.
  • Be assessing within your approved scope within Connexis’ accreditation.

If you have capacity to take on more assessment work, please contact your local Customer Service Account Manager (CSAM).

Moderations

Connexis Assessors will continue to be called for moderation on a quarterly basis.

Last year, there were 1104 moderations completed – what an achievement! While we appreciate the number of assessments is high, we need to ensure they are consistently assessed fairly and to a high standard. Therefore, please ensure you have suitable records of sufficient evidence, should samples of your assessments be requested for moderation.

If you have any queries regarding this, feel free to contact us at quality@connexis.org.nz

Assessor Training Course

If you know anyone wanting to become an assessor with Connexis, please ask them to enrol in an assessor training course using the form here. This course covers how to become a Connexis assessor and training for unit standard 4098.

The courses for the first half of 2022 are being held as follows:
