What is infrastructure?

Infrastructure is what keeps New Zealand connected - we're talking about the roads you use to take you from Cape Reinga to Bluff, the pipes used to get fresh water, the electricity network that keeps the lights on, and the wifi network that keeps you connected.

OUR INDUSTRIES:

GATEWAY MICRO-CREDENTIALS

Get a kickstart into the industry while still at school.

These Infrastructure Gateway programmes are industry approved by NZQA with credits towards NCEA and give you a great kickstart into a workplace. The industry is booming and offers a number of career opportunities including:

OUR GATEWAY PROGRAMMES:

Our Gateway programmes have been tailor-made for Year 11, 12 and 13 students to allow them to gain experience in the Infrastructure Industries. Unit standards are set at Level 2 and 3, and contain a mixture of soft skills and technical skills to give students a better insight into the variety of skills required for the industry.

  • Technical skill units: Students are partnered with an infrastructure company to learn skills on-the-job.
  • Soft skill units: Theory units students work through in the classroom.

By taking part in the Gateway Programme, your students get to meet potential employers and test out the industry, while completing relevant unit standards towards their training!

There are five new Gateway Micro-credentials now available.

Please click below to download the enrolment forms for these. Each enrolment form must be accompanied by a Gateway MOU filled out by the student's school.

Please send your completed enrolment forms and MOU to gateway@connexis.org.nz.

    Schools

    • Work with Connexis to enrol the student.
    • Support the student through training and assessment requirements.
    • Fund the training programme.

    Connexis

    • Provides guidance and support.
    What is a Micro-credential?

Micro-credentials are an emerging area of development as we look for ways to broaden our service offering. Micro-credentials are short, NZQA recognised training programmes that have fewer credits than a qualification (between 5 and 40) and either lead into a qualification or focus on specialised skills and knowledge that top up a full qualification certificate or apprenticeship programme.

Examples of where micro-credentials are useful include bringing emergent skills related to new technology to market quickly and providing a mechanism for people with specialist skills to have their learning credentialed. It is a great way to provide multiple pathways to new roles and jobs.
