Workforce development becomes a major focus for infrastructure industries

There have been a number of research reports to understand talent shortages in the infrastructure industries released so far this year.

We Are Water:

The latest from Waihanga Ara Rau, the Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council, is called We Are Water – Ko Wai Tātou, and aims to elevate the three waters sectors as a leading career option.

Just like with the Re-Energise – Ngā Mahi a Māui report for the Electricity Supply Industry, published in February, Connexis was instrumental in getting this research off the ground before it was handed to Waihanga Ara Rau last year.

Water New Zealand estimates the three water sectors of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater need an additional 6000 to 9000 skilled workers over the next 30 years.

Connexis Director Kaarin Gaukrodger says the review has “underlined opportunities for collaboration within the water services sector to raise the profile of Three Waters career pathways and remove barriers to entry for the next generation of workers.” Read more.
